Nottingham Township is part of the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) program, a state and federal initiative that helps protect our local streams and rivers. When it rains, water runs off rooftops, driveways, streets, and yards, carrying with it things like soil, litter, fertilizers, oil, and other pollutants. Unlike wastewater from sinks or toilets, this stormwater is not treated. It flows through storm drains and pipes straight into nearby creeks and rivers.
Because of this, the way we manage stormwater directly affects water quality, flooding, and erosion in our community. Proper stormwater management helps keep drinking water clean, protects property, and supports healthy fish and wildlife. Residents can play a part by keeping yard waste out of storm drains, picking up after pets, using lawn chemicals sparingly, and never dumping anything down a storm inlet.
The Township works to meet MS4 requirements by maintaining stormwater systems, reducing pollution, and providing education for the public. Together, these efforts help protect the health, safety, and environment of Nottingham Township for generations to come.
